The objective is to create a music production workstation that creates a specialized space for the home-based user to increase productivity during music production. It will be suitable for a beginner but also allow them to add to their station as time goes on. It will be able to accommodate a MIDI controller in the form of a keyboard and/or grid controller, their laptop (DAW) with room for monitors, an audio interface with storage area for cables, storage for a mic, storage for headphones and 2 speakers, one on each side of the table.
It is also required to use CNC machining processes to produce this table. This made me look into Mario Pagliaro and was inspired by his furniture design.
Mario works with laser-cut plywood to create his designs. His designs are all interlocking with no need for fasteners or any hardware. This design is extremely environmentally friendly due to it only using wood which can then be recycled. The “x” shape is a reoccurring motif in his work. He uses interlocking pieces to form an x to stabilize his furniture designs. He also utilizes the x as an interlock between two pieces which can create very interesting points of connection. Lastly, the x is also an aesthetic that is unique to his brand. By researching his work, I could point out some weaknesses in mine and I will also draw inspiration from his use of motif to create a unique visual aesthetic that will also appeal to my user group.
